Providing a Cup of Water in Jesus' Name

My wife and I were looking for a ministry to become involved with and support as a family. Our church is partnering with Living Water International this Advent season so we decided this was a good opportunity. Our pastor had this to say concerning the effort:
"This year, during Advent, our church will be partnering with Living Water International in order to fund the building of two deep wells in Liberia. Liberia has an 80% poverty rate, making it one of the poorest nations on earth. Of the 3.5 million citizens, few have access to clean drinking water.

By building these two wells, we will alleviate the suffering of approximately 2,000 people by providing them clean water. The cost of this project is $20,000, which sounds like a lot of money, but in reality is not when you compare this to the average amount of money spent by consumers on Christmas shopping. In order to fund this project we are asking everyone in our church to cut their Christmas spending in half this year and give half of what they would normally spend towards this project."
If any of you would like to contribute specifically to our project in Liberia, you can contact the church here. Please watch the video and see the links below for more information. If you and your family or church are looking for new ways to give perhaps you will consider Living Water International. Discouraged by rampant materialism and the overshadowing of the true meaning of Christmas? Visit Advent Conspiracy below. Also, see Rethinking Christmas for creative gift ideas this year.

"Living Water International exists to demonstrate the love of God by helping communities acquire desperately needed clean water, and to experience "living water"—the gospel of Jesus Christ—which alone satisfies the deepest thirst."

"Christmas can [still] change the world. The story of Christ's birth is a story of promise, hope, and a revolutionary love. So, what happened? What was once a time to celebrate the birth of a savior has somehow turned into a season of stress, traffic jams, and shopping lists. And when it's all over, many of us are left with presents to return, looming debt that will take months to pay off, and this empty feeling of missed purpose. Is this what we really want out of Christmas? What if Christmas became a world-changing event again? Welcome to Advent Conspiracy."

"This is a community site for you to share your stories and ideas for the season of advent. To particpate, contribute your gift ideas, and post questions and comments in the forum. For more information on what Advent Conspiracy is, watch the video."
